I believe you can do this in 7 or above. If not you can do it in CS or above. This is a cool real pencil brush I developed.

thanks
I am having an issue in adobeps it's cc 2018 so please guide me to make or use it in this version sir
lmao u high mate?
Could've truncated this into a simple 2 minute vid, but I get the point. Thanks.
Nice tut BUT it'd be MUCH better if y'all got it "right" the FIRST time around… OR, Hey!!! Here's a THOUGHT… EDIT your vid to ONLY include the parts that you got right. Instead of making us sit through your "OOOPS!! Skip ahead folks. Don't watch, like the first HALF of this vid… Thanks though. It DID get me there… eventually. : ) I'm proud to watch YOUR learning curve, along with mine…LOL. EXCEPT… Mine could have been roughly, four minutes shorter. : P But seriously. Thank you, again, for finally getting me there. Works like a charm… errr… a "pencil." : D
you should make it in full screen next time
Good
This… is… PERFECT! I'm a cartoonist and character designer and my preliminary drawings have always been lacking since I switched over to my Wacom (even though drawing on a tablet is INFINITELY better). This is going to changes everything.
Thank you so much. It's so simple too.
Thanks for the Stuff! Really love it! XD
I need one for cs5
Reposting @strayfies's advice for the new comment system:
"He didn't cover this in speech, but you want to turn on Opacity Jitter (set to 0%, assigned to pen pressure), and flow jitter same thing. Also, texture should have its Mode set to Linear Burn, and its depth should default to 100%, with the options below grayed out."
And, as requested by @Blastaar7, here's a download link for the finished brush and necessary texture:

i love u!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! seriously, tnx!!!
Woaw Woaw!… I use a random circle brush, and when I do all the presets I don't get that thin part at the beginning and at the end, I just get a circular brush all around :/
Any Help?
FFS covering every step and then he says, "Well, let's start over… DERP!" Fuck nugget, just restart the video and do it again… don't take the lazy way out.
Fuck nugget.
if what you meant you couldn't see the texture effect, try to increase texture scale in brush preset/texture to 700%
this brush rocks, thanks for making the tutorial
I watched this twice and then went through it, step by step, stopping the video at each point so that I could replicate each action. Did this THREE times and still didn't get the pencil result. Still the same hard 5 pixel brush. And I'm using a Cintiq. Frustrating. Even reading comments below about tweaking his original directions. Nothing works. Back to googling.
The brush seems to be laggy. I don't know if thats the brush or just your computer but for me that doesn't seem to be a good brush you would want to be using for digital painting. having to wait for the brush to catch up to your movment seems like a poorly designed brush too me.
If in ps6, try unchecking "texture each tip" under texture in the brush settings.
One thing you need to make sure is that in the texture tab the blend mode is Linear Burn
I got stuck too, then saw that.
if anyone has successfully recreated this brush from this tutorial, can you put it up for download somewhere?
Just create a Layer Mask with a gradient tool that lowers the opacity. Then apply it to areas you want.
Thanks for the tip. I'm going to try it soon.
thanx man – it works. You gave me a good idea for other brush. thanx
make sure under texture you have the blending mode set to linear burn and the depth/scale set to something similar to what he has. it wasnt looking right for me, until i did that.
very nice tutorial Neil! been wanting one of these for a while
thanks for the heads-up, I've managed to make everything work except the texture. Opacity works with my pen pressure, and so do flow, depth, size and spacing, but I keep getting flat colors and no texture… any idea why?
Thanks a lot.
This is such a useful tutorial. You can open it up to create canvas textures and chalk on concrete and so on.
Thank you!
ps. for those having problems, try raising the contrast slider in the brush's texture menu.
He didn't cover this in speech, but you want to turn on Opacity Jitter (set to 0%, assigned to pen pressure), and flow jitter same thing. Also, texture should have its Mode set to Linear Burn, and its depth should default to 100%, with the options below grayed out.
This works nicely….. the brush portion. I went in and used a gravel texture I found.
